but MOM!
Brooks is playing with a friend and they are talking about blowing each other up and stuff and so I said "How about you play something else. Something nicer."

Nanny McPhee
A had a couple of loose teeth and the other day Brooks bumped into her. It made her tooth super loose and she knew that if Lewis saw it like that when he got home he would pull it out. She decided that she would rather pull it out herself. So she did. And she was pretty excited about it.
Although she was disappointed in the $3 the tooth fairy left. Oh well. It's all good because now she looks like Nanny McPhee:

Cate's big weigh in
Who's the cutest baby?
Cate and Brooks recently had their 2 year and 5 year old check ups and I am happy to report that Cate is officially on the charts!!! Can I get a what what?!?! Weighing in at 22 lbs. 10 oz. she is in the 4th percentile! Go baby!!!!!!!
Brooks is around 36 lbs. and in the 10th percentile for height and weight.
He wasn't however a fan of the 4 shots he had to get but was glad he could do the flumist instead of the shot.
Cate at 2 is getting more opinionated by the minute. We have taken the pacifier aka baba away which is kicking my butt. She is starting to go to sleep a little better without it but I don't think she understands where it is now. I told her that we had to give it to a baby because only babies use pacifiers. This backfired because she doesn't call herself Cate, she calls herself "Baby".
She likes to choose her own clothes every day.
She says "an nyoung" for all done-- do you love Arrested Development?
She can "hee yah" with the best of them (sword fight).
Her hair is super curly and darker than the other two kids.
She hardly ever cries or makes any sound at all. In fact, sometimes she just sits in her bed after she wakes up or sits in her high chair after a meal until someone finally notices her.
In conclusion, she is as tasty and wonderful as ever.

First Day Recap
Obligatory first day picture by the front door. Adi (as she likes to be called these days heaven help us all) was so thrilled to start 2nd grade. She has the teacher that everyone wants. And he's one of only 2 male teachers in our school.
You'll never guess who got the other male teacher? Sweet bubby who was also excited about school. Until he actually had to walk in the classroom where he looked at me with sheer panic and said " I can't go in there. I feel sick. I'm going home with you." and started to cry a little.

He's still holding it together..... Luckily for me his preschool teacher from last year was in the hall saying hi to all the kids she knows and she stepped right in. She took Brooks into his classroom and sat with him until he was ready for her to go. I owe her big time.
This is as far as big girl on campus 2nd grader would let dear old mom walk with her. HOW EMBARRASSING that I would want to walk her to her classroom and HUG and KISS her!
One more stop by kindergarten to check on Brooks and Mrs. Connie. Never fear, he got the hang of it really quickly and has been thrilled to go back every day since.
A trip to Doodle's for lemon and coconut and chocolate and cherry and cotton candy ices was just what we needed after a long hot day at school!

Skin update and products I can use
When I decided to go to Utah for 3 weeks this summer I was concerned about my skin. Everything I've ever heard says that dry weather makes eczema worse. Luckily for me, something about Utah made my skin better. Much better. As in, my skin was perfectly clear of any rash after about 3 days in Utah. Weird thing was that after a few days in Washington/Oregon my skin started getting bad again. Something about the humidity is making me itchy....
Anyway, since I've been home my skin is bad again. No surprises there, but I bought an air purifier today at Costco and am considering having my vents cleaned out and just hoping that these things will do the trick. Or at least make the rash a little better.
I don't think that my paraben "allergy" is what is causing the skin problems (which is what my dermatologist thinks it is) but I do think going paraben-free is probably a good idea. I have a 76 page list of products I can use, but here are some of the less expensive products I have found and like:

I got this from a friend whose husband is a dermatologist. I think they got it free from the company. This is a brand that derms. like and I think it might be because they get it free..... but it works and is very gentle. This is the brand of sunscreen that I use too (Vanicream) and you can get it at Target:

Makeup choices are pretty much limited to expensive brands and since I don't wear it that often, this is pretty much my mascara choice and actually I don't like it. (I'm considering a trip to the Bare Essentials store in the mall):

from Whole Foods, really a good price. I think $4.99 for this size. My scalp and hair are so healthy and not oily even in the sweaty humid weather. I highly recommend this stuff:
